On September 25, 2016, the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman joined in the annual fun run of the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod of UP Manila in celebration of the 23rd anniversary of the Pahinungod program within the UP system. The fun run took place at the academic oval of the UP Diliman campus with the gun start beginning at 6:00 in the morning. UP Manila Pahinungod regularly celebrates their anniversaries with the aim of gathering past and present Pahinungod volunteers of the UP system in a reunion-themed event.
It will be recalled that in September 1993, a Committee on Volunteer Service was formed to study the proposed idea of a volunteer service program which gathers system-wide human resources to public service. This eventually paved the way for the formal launching of the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod or Oblation Corps on February 28, 1994. Every year thereafter, Pahinungod has marked the month of September for the celebration of its founding anniversary. Even after the dissolution of the program in the UP System, campuses like UP Manila, UP Los Baños, and UP Visayas, which continued with their respective Pahinungod programs, still observe the program’s anniversary every September.
With the recent creation of a college-based Service-Learning, Outreach-Pahinungod (SLO-Pahinungod), CSSP is continually reaching out to the various Pahinungod programs of the UP system especially through the participation of Pahinungod events such as the annual fun run. Members of the CSSP administrative team who attended the event include Dean Grace H. Aguiling-Dalisay, PhD; Associate Dean for Research and Publication, Dr. Gregorio E.H. del Pilar; and the coordinator of the Office of the SLO-Pahinungod, Asst. Prof. Francisco Rosario, Jr. Also present in the event were delegates from UPLB Pahinungod. After the run, the volunteers proceeded to the Executive House where they feasted on a generous breakfast sponsored by UP President, Alfredo E. Pascual.
